Summary:
Yuri, from modern Korea, reincarnates in the fantasy world of a novel as a child living in poverty. After failing to pickpocket, she gets beaten and sold for experimentation. She survives the experiments and becomes Arachne before the laboratory is destroyed by the villain of the story, Lakis Avalon, ruler of the West. She leaves the West for the East and moves in next door to the heroine and her younger sister. Her daily life alternates between working at the coffee shop and assassination. One day, she comes home and the villain is lying bloody on her doorstep instead of the heroine’s forcing Yuri to decide whether she wants to change the story. Bonus: there are five side stories at the end of the text.
Review
I would recommend this book to young adults and adults who enjoy Korean novels, novels in any of the genres above, anti-hero(ines), Spiderman, or texts with female protagonists. One aspect that drew me into the text is the portrayal of the main character. Usually, characters that have been reincarnated require time to adjust once they are reminded of their past life and try to introduce their belief systems from the previous life into the current life. Yuri does not follow that character model and instead, reacts calmly to most situations and is the most well-adapted reincarnated character I have ever read. The text kept me engaged because I both enjoyed Yuri’s calmness and was curious to see what situations would disrupt her calm.
